SkyStream Pro 8K Review - Everything You Need To Know

Anyone who keeps up with the latest and greatest in media technology will probably have heard of the SkyStream Pro 8K, which is one of the first streaming media players with 8K streaming capabilities. No doubt it won’t be long until this is standard, but at the moment, SkyStream is ahead of the game. 

But does that mean you should be rushing out and buying a SkyStream Pro today? Let’s try and answer that exact question by taking a close look under the hood of SkyStream’s latest and greatest streaming media player release. 

Spoiler alert! I love the SkyStream Pro, and if you have an 8K TV, I think it is the best option on the market for 8K streaming. But even if you aren’t yet 8K ready, and let’s be honest, there also isn’t that much 8K content to stream, this is still one of the best media streaming players on the market. It performs well, is designed to be easy and intuitive, and I just love the remote.

SkyStream Pro Review

Released in early 2020, the SkyStream Pro replaces that SkyStream Three (read our review here), which was one of the most popular streaming media players in 2019. The new box looks pretty much the same on the outside, but has some nice updates on the inside, which mean significantly better performance, including streaming up to 8K.

The Tech

The SkyStream Pro has a 64-bit Quad Core and runs off a lightning-fast S905X3 by Algomatic, which puts it at the absolute top end in terms of tech when compared to all the media streaming boxes currently on the market.
The SkyStream Pro also has new and improved software, running off Android 9.0 Pie, designed specifically for TV boxes. Previous versions of the SkyStream didn’t run TV box specific versions of Android, so the new experience is smoother and less glitchy.


This means the player can deliver up to 8K Super Ultra HD at 24 frames per second, and 4K at 75 frames per second. You won’t find better quality with any other player.
The Pro has 4 GB of RAM, but, surprisingly, only 32 GB of internal memory. The SkyStream Three had 64 GB, and there is no clear reason for this reduction. But the Pro offers lots of other ways to get your content onto your device. It also has two USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port, plus a micro-USB slot with expandable memory up to 128 GB.

Buying

The SkyStream Pro 8K will set you back between $125.00 and $150.00 depending on when and where you buy, which means it is pretty expensive for a streaming media player, but cheaper than other places offering 8K, such as the new Nvidia Shield.
